What it is
The Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC) is Ireland’s national child protection charity. Their mission is to make the protection of children everyone’s priority. The ISPCC provides a range of services directly to children and families,
and advocates for change to enhance the lives of children in Ireland. Childline is the national listening service for children and young people in Ireland, and is a confidential service run by the ISPCC, by telephone, text and online. In 2017, Childine answered over 380,000 contacts every year by phone, text and web chat. Childline is one of the ISPCC’s suite of services for children and is open 365 days a year. Their volunteers come from all walks of life,
and receive significant training in active listening to equip them to listen to, support and empower children.
What we do
Ryanair have worked with ISPCC Childline on numerous campaigns and competitions to help their mission of making the protection of children everyone’s priority. On top of that our goal is to raise much needed funds so that their service can operate 24/7 365 days of the year. So far we have raised over €300,000 for ISPCC Childline.
As Europe’s favourite airline we believe that it is our responsibility to give back to charities and organisations that are in need of funding and raised awareness. We are proud to help such a charity that provides a listening service to vulnerable children throughout Ireland
In July 2019 Ryanair announced it will feature a digital donation option during the checkout process on the Ryanair.com website, in aid of ISPCC Childline. Members of Ireland’s Got Talent 2019 finalists Rebel Acro, a Cork-based acrobatic gymnastics team, were on hand to help launch the feature in spectacular style at Cork Airport.
ISPCC CEO, John Church said:
“ISPCC CEO John Church said: “Ryanair’s incredible support of Childline over the past three years, donating over €350,000, has helped keep Childline listening to children 24 hours a day, every day. We are thrilled to continue the partnership in 2019 and look forward to unique and exciting initiatives taking place.
“We are delighted that Ryanair’s funding will directly help to train volunteers to listen to, support and empower children who contact Childline, through Ryanair’s sponsorship of a Childline volunteer training course currently taking place.
“The generosity of Ryanair, its staff and customers, is making a real difference for children and young people across Ireland by ensuring they always have somewhere they can turn – whether they are upset, lonely, traumatised, or simply wish to chat about their day. Ryanair, its staff and customers will be a part of every call Childline answers in 2019.”
