Ryanair Calls On Spanish Prime Minister To Stop Aena Airports Profiteering From Covid-19 Crisis

Ryanair, Spain’s No. 1 airline, today (8 May) called on Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, to reverse AENA’s unjustified “parking” charges imposed on aircraft which have been grounded at Spanish airports by Government travel bans.

Ryanair fully supports the Spanish Government’s actions to halt the spread of the Covid-19 virus, however AENA Airports (which are majority owned by the Spanish State) should not be allowed to profiteer from the Covid-19 crisis at the expense of customer airlines grounded by Government travel bans. These parking charges should be waived by AENA for the duration of the Covid-19 groundings as many other EU airports already have. If AENA refuses to waive these excessive fees, then Prime Minister Sanchez’s Govt must order them to do so.

Ryanair DAC CEO, Eddie Wilson, said:

Ryanair, Spain’s No. 1 airline, is proud to serve 26 airports in Spain and looks forward to resuming services, when government travel bans are lifted. In the meantime, it is wrong that AENA, a state-owned monopoly, should be allowed profiteer from customers whose aircraft have been grounded by Government travel bans. We call on the Spanish Government to ensure that these charges are cancelled for all airlines.”
