COURT ORDER STOPS EDREAMS ACCESSING RYANAIR’S ‘TRAVEL AGENT DIRECT’ BOOKING SYSTEM

Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 airline, today (Tue 2 Jun) welcomed the Irish High Court order in which Edreams undertook to stop accessing Ryanair’s Travel Agent Direct (“TAD”) booking system.

Ryanair’s TAD platform is designed for genuine bricks‑and‑mortar travel agents who make bookings through dedicated “myRyanair accounts”.  Last March, Edreams was exposed for accessing this platform and reselling Ryanair flights without Ryanair’s permission. Ryanair went to Court to stop this unauthorised access and Edreams agreed a permanent undertaking not to use Ryanair’s TAD, which has now been enshrined in a High Court order.

While Edreams continues to reject Ryanair’s price transparency standards, Ryanair’s approved Online Travel Agent partners, including Booking.com, Lastminute and Kiwi, are benefiting from free, direct access to Ryanair’s low fares on the basis of online distribution agreements and a commitment to Ryanair’s price transparency standards.

Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary said:

“By agreeing to this High Court order, Edreams has accepted that it cannot access Ryanair’s booking platform for traditional travel agents, and that Ryanair is entitled to restrict access to this platform to genuine bricks and mortar agencies.

We will continue to protect our passengers by ensuring they get the lowest fares from our partner travel agents. If Edreams wants free, direct access to Ryanair’s low fares through an online distribution arrangement, all they need to do is accept the same terms which Booking.com, Lastminute, Kiwi and many others have negotiated with us and are pleased with.
