RYANAIR WARNS SHANNON HANGAR INVESTMENT AND 300 JOBS WILL MOVE TO POLAND IF PLANNING DELAYS DERAIL PROJECT

€50M INVESTMENT & 300 HIGH-SKILLED JOBS AT RISK IF SHANNON EXPANSION CANNOT PROCEED ON SCHEDULE

Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 airline, today (Thurs, 8 Oct) warned that its planned €50m investment in a new 4-bay aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hangar and Engineering Academy at Shannon Airport, along with 300 high-skilled jobs, will move to Poland unless the project receives planning permission and can be delivered on schedule.

Ryanair announced plans in July for a new 4-bay aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hangar and Engineering Academy at Shannon Airport. The development would significantly expand Ryanair’s existing maintenance operations at Shannon, where its current 3-bay hangar supports over 200 high-skilled, high-paid mechanics and engineering jobs.

Ryanair is due to get the first of its 300 new Boeing MAX-10 aircraft in early 2027 and our rapidly growing fleet requires additional maintenance capacity by 2028. We cannot afford planning delays or endless bureaucracy. If Shannon cannot deliver this project on time, then we will move the hangar and 300 jobs to Poland. Construction of the Shannon facility must commence in early 2027.

Ryanair COO, Neal McMahon said:

“Ryanair is ready to invest €50m in Shannon and create 300 new high-skilled jobs but we will not accept planning delays or bureaucracy. This is a major opportunity for Shannon and the wider region, building on our existing engineering operation and supporting the next generation of aircraft mechanics. However, if Shannon cannot deliver this project on time, then we will move it and the 300 jobs to Poland.”
