Ryanair Drives Growth In Katowice & Silesia

To mark Ryanair’s 20 years in Poland, consultancy firm KPMG prepared its “Ryanair’s Economic Impact in Poland” report for 2025. The report outlines Ryanair’s contribution to Poland’s economy, including GDP, employment, regional development and tourism growth.

For a decade, Ryanair has been Poland’s leading airline and the largest investor in its aviation sector. According to the KPMG report, Ryanair’s operations support 2,800 jobs in Silesia and contribute over PLN330m to regional GDP, delivering significant benefits to the local economy.

Ryanair’s Katowice Winter ’26 schedule further strengthens Silesia’s connectivity, supporting tourism, travel for residents and the region’s attractiveness to investors. Three new routes to Italy and Spain will deliver even more choice and low fares for passengers.

Michał Kaczmarzyk, CEO of Buzz, part of the Ryanair Group, said:

“As Poland’s No.1 airline, Ryanair is pleased to announce its Katowice Winter ’26 schedule, delivering 13 routes, including 3 new routes to Naples, Turin and Málaga – Sunny Costa del Sol. This means even more choice for Silesian residents planning a winter city break in Italy or a sunshine getaway on the Costa del Sol.

Our presence in Katowice delivers significant benefits across the region. As the KPMG report shows, Ryanair supports 2,800 jobs in Silesia and contributes €78.5m to regional GDP. This demonstrates the important role low-fare connectivity plays in growing tourism and regional economies. With 3 based aircraft this Winter, we will continue to develop our Katowice offering.

To celebrate the launch of our Katowice Winter ’26 schedule, we have launched a 3-day seat sale with 100,000 seats from just PLN99, available now at ryanair.com and on the Ryanair app.”

Artur Tomasik, President of the Management Board of Górnośląskie Towarzystwo Lotnicze SA, added:

“Ryanair’s report confirms the significant impact of aviation on the region’s economic development. Currently, nearly 60 companies and public institutions operate at Katowice Airport, employing approximately 5,200 people in total. Forecasts indicate that airport employment will grow to 7,000 by the end of the decade, making the airport one of the largest employers in the Silesian Voivodeship.

The airport’s contribution to the regional economy is multifaceted. Its extensive route network provides the Silesian Voivodeship with direct connectivity to the world. The aircraft maintenance base fosters synergy between business and academia, including cooperation with Silesian University of Technology, which educates professionals for the aviation sector. Meanwhile, the airport’s cargo zone directly supports local businesses in international trade and commerce.”
