RYANAIR ACCELERATES GROWTH IN SWEDEN WITH RECORD-BREAKING WINTER SCHEDULE 7 BASED AIRCRAFT, 48 ROUTES (8 NEW) & 4.3M PASSENGERS P.A.

Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 airline, today (Thu, 14th Aug) announced its record Winter ‘25 schedule for Sweden, with over 4.3m passengers p.a., 7 based aircraft and 48 routes (incl. 8 new) across 5 Swedish airports, supporting over 3,400 local jobs and reinforcing Ryanair’s long-term commitment to delivering growth, connectivity, and low fares in Sweden following the Govt’s decision to abolish the Aviation Tax from 1 July 2025.

This rapid expansion builds on the strong momentum triggered by the Swedish Govt decision to abolish the Aviation Tax – a strategic move that Ryanair immediately responded to with a $200M investment for this Summer, incl. 2 new based aircraft (1 in Arlanda & 1 in Gothenburg), 10 new routes and 60 new highly paid local jobs. This growth accelerates into Winter ‘25, with both new aircraft remaining based in Sweden to support a 25% capacity increase and enhanced year-round connectivity with over 400 flights per week, across 48 routes, of which 8 are new.

Ryanair’s Sweden Winter ‘25 schedule will deliver:

  • 7 based aircraft (5 in Arlanda, 2 in Gothenburg)
  • 48 tot. routes, incl. 8 new from Arlanda, Gothenburg, Västerås and Växjö
  • Over 400 flights per week
  • 4.3m passengers p.a.
  • Support over 3,400 jobs

However, Swedavia’s continual increases in airport charges in recent years (+9% in 2025 alone) risks undermining the Government’s success in lowering access costs and boosting competitiveness. To ensure Sweden fully benefits from this progressive tax decision, airport charges must remain stable and cost-efficient. With the right conditions in place, Ryanair stands ready to double Swedish traffic to over 8 million passengers p.a., base 6 additional aircraft, offer 150+ routes, and 6,000 jobs by 2030.

To celebrate Ryanair’s Winter 2025 schedule in Sweden and this continued growth, Ryanair has launched a 3-day seat sale with fares from just SEK 249, only at ryanair.com.

Ryanair’s CMO Dara Brady said:

“Ryanair is proud to deliver another season of strong growth in Sweden, with a record Winter ’25 schedule – over 4.3 million passengers p.a. across 48 routes from 5 airports, including 8 exciting new destinations. Our $700M investment in 7 based aircraft is supporting more than 3,400 local jobs, reinforcing our commitment to driving tourism, connectivity, and economic development in Sweden.

We responded immediately to the Government’s decision to scrap the Aviation Tax from 1 Jul ’25. Ryanair’s additional $200M investment for Summer ’25, including 2 new based aircraft and 10 new routes, is already driving more traffic, jobs, and tourism and this rapid expansion continues into Winter, where we will deliver +25% growth and 8 new routes thanks to the new year-round based aircraft in Arlanda and Gothenburg. While Ryanair continues to invest and grow across Sweden, flag carrier SAS remains at 81% of pre-Covid traffic levels, focusing on its Copenhagen hub and leaving Stockholm and other key regions poorly served.

However, to sustain this momentum and fully seize the opportunity left by underperforming legacy carriers, the broader cost environment must remain competitive. While the Government’s decision to abolish the Aviation Tax is a major step forward, Swedavia’s continual increases in airport charges risk offsetting this progress. To fully unlock the benefits of this tax abolition, it’s essential that airport charges remain stable and cost-competitive to support further airline investment, traffic growth, and lower fares for Swedish consumers. If these conditions are secured, Ryanair is prepared to double its Swedish traffic to over 8 million passengers annually, base six additional aircraft, operate more than 150 routes, and create 6,000 jobs by 2030.

To celebrate Ryanair’s Winter 2025 schedule in Sweden and this continued growth, Ryanair has launched a 3-day seat sale with fares from just SEK 249, only at ryanair.com.”
