RYANAIR GROWS IN PLOVDIV WITH NEW MILAN-MALPENSA ROUTE IN WINTER 2025/26
Ryanair, Europe and Bulgaria’s No. 1 airline, today (30th July) announced further growth at Plovdiv Airport with the addition
of a new route to Milan-Malpensa for Winter 2025/26. This new connection strengthens Ryanair’s commitment to regional
development in Southern Bulgaria and marks an important milestone in the airline’s long-term investment in Plovdiv.
Ryanair’s Winter 2025/26 schedule for Plovdiv will deliver:
- 1 new route (Milan-Malpensa), delivering a direct connection to a new market (Italy)
- 4 routes in total
- Return of popular destinations: Birmingham, London-Stansted, and Manchester
- Continued growth in Plovdiv (+27% growth vs. Winter 2024/25)
With the addition of Milan-Malpensa, Ryanair will now operate four winter routes from Plovdiv – including services to
London, Manchester, Birmingham, and Milan – offering Bulgarian citizens and visitors even more choice at Europe’s lowest
fares. The new Milan-Malpensa route will connect Plovdiv directly with Italy for the first time since 2018, boosting both
outbound travel opportunities and inbound tourism to the Region.
The new Milan-Malpensa route will operate twice weekly (Fridays and Sundays) from 26th October and will support local
jobs and economies in Southern Bulgaria. To celebrate its Winter 2025/26 schedule in Plovdiv, Ryanair is offering a
dedicated seat sale with tickets from Plovdiv starting from EUR 41.99. Available only at www.ryanair.com.
Alicja Wójcik-Gołębiowska, Ryanair’s Head of Communications CEE & Baltics, said:
“As Bulgaria’s largest airline, Ryanair is delighted to announce further growth in Plovdiv with the launch of our new route
to Milan-Malpensa in Winter 2025/26. This exciting addition not only strengthens Ryanair’s position in Southern Bulgaria,
but also marks the first-ever connection between Plovdiv and Milan – a clear win for local travellers, inbound tourism, and
business links.
Unlike other higher-cost regional airports in Bulgaria, Plovdiv Airport and its stakeholders are focused on growing low-
fare connectivity at the Airport, which will directly benefit regional tourism and businesses. This crucial expansion in
Plovdiv would not have been possible without the continued support of Plovdiv Airport and local stakeholders who
understand that competitive access costs are the only way to support low-fare connectivity. We look forward to building on
this success and delivering even more connectivity and low fares at Plovdiv Airport over the next decade.”
Kostadin Dimitrov, Mayor of Municipality Plovdiv, said:
“At the very beginning of the mandate, together with the team of the Plovdiv Airport Route Development Fund, we outlined
clear steps that we are already implementing. The expansion of Ryanair’s activities in Plovdiv is beneficial to our city and
the entire southeastern region. Such opportunities are due to the fact that the number of tourists here is increasing every
year, there are numerous cultural events, as well as opportunities for winter tourism. I express my gratitude to the Ryanair
team for their trust and commitment to our city. The expansion of your activities at Plovdiv Airport and the opening of new
routes not only confirms the strategic importance of the region, but also opens up new opportunities for tourism, business
and connectivity.”
