THE GREENS BLOW BILLIONS ON RAILWAYS AND RTE…BUT WON’T FIX DUBLIN AIRPORT TRAFFIC CAP
Ryanair, Ireland’s No.1 airline, today (Wed 31 Jul) criticised Green Ministers Eamon Ryan and Catherine Martin, who has proposed to squander €billions of taxpayer funds for pie in the sky railway plans for the next 30 years, or, in Catherine Martin’s case to subsidise RTE up to €5m per week for the next 3 years, but neither will lift a finger to fix the 32m traffic cap at Dublin Airport, which is restricting traffic and tourism growth into Ireland.
Ryanair again called on these 2 useless Green Ministers to take action for Irish air transport and tourism. Multiple airlines at Dublin Airport are now forced to take legal action to do what Transport Minister Eamon Ryan should have done years ago, which was to scrap this absurd 2007 traffic cap, which is no longer valid since there is no road traffic access problems at Dublin Airport.
As always, these useless Green Ministers promise railway and RTE “jam” tomorrow instead of fixing air traffic problems today.
Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary said:
“Yet again these 2 useless Green Ministers prefer to promise “jam” tomorrow instead of fixing todays transport problems. Dublin is the worlds 2nd most congested traffic city, yet their solution is more empty bicycle lanes. Instead of scraping the outdated idiotic 2007 32m traffic cap at Dublin Airport, Eamon Ryan on his way out the door has found €35bn for pie in the sky railway plans for the next 30 years. Equally, Catherine Martin, who as Tourism Minister has done nothing about the Dublin Airport traffic cap and confirmed €5m a week of taxpayer funds to subsidise the inefficient and loss-making State broadcaster RTE.
Green Ministers don’t work. Green transport policies don’t work. Ireland is an island on the periphery of Europe, and the future of our economy depends on the growth of low cost air access and inbound tourism. It’s time these 2 Green Ministers stopped wasting €billions on pie in the sky railway plans, or subsiding the loss making national broadcaster, and instead scrap this outdated and no longer relevant 32m traffic cap at Dublin Airport to allow airlines like Ryanair and others, continue to grow air access and tourism to Ireland.
These 2 Green Ministers for Transport and Tourism have failed Irish aviation and tourism, and we now call on new Taoiseach Simon Harris to do what Eamon Ryan has failed to do for 4 years and abandon this idiotic, outdated, and damaging 32m traffic cap at Dublin Airport.”
