CONSUMER BACKLASH AS THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS EXPOSE EDREAMS HARMFUL OVERCHARGING & UNAUTHORISED BOOKINGS
EDREAMS USE CHINESE THIRD PARTIES TO BOOK RYANAIR FLIGHTS & MAKE EU PASSENGER BOOKINGS THROUGH CHINA
Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 airline, today (1, May) exposes eDreams for overcharging consumers and purposely providing Ryanair with fake email addresses, fake postal addresses and using Chinese payment details.
Ryanair has received thousands of complaints about eDreams that reveals a pattern of eDreams inflating pricing on Ryanair bookings including flights, seat selections, baggage, and more. eDreams is not authorised by Ryanair to sell flights and circumvents this by unlawfully screen-scraping Ryanair’s website and submitting bookings using fake contact information and Chinese payment details. In documented cases, some passengers paid up to 52% more than the Ryanair price.
Ryanair remains committed to protecting consumers from non-transparent practices and excessive mark-ups by OTAs like eDreams and urges consumers to book directly through the Ryanair website or through one of its approved OTA partners. This ensures customers have full access to their myRyanair account and receive important flight and security information, whilst avoiding eDreams significant hidden overcharges.
Ryanair’s CMO, Dara Brady said:
“The use of Chinese payment details, fake email addresses, and false postal information by eDreams is alarming and exposes their anti-consumer practices. Even more concerning is their apparent willingness to needlessly send European passenger information to third parties in China.
Ryanair advises all passengers to book directly on ryanair.com to ensure that they are not overcharged, and their journey is seamless.”
