Ryanair To Cancel Up To 300 Of 2,400 Daily Flights Next Wed 25 And Thurs 26 To Minimise Disruption To Customers From Unnecessary Strikes By Some Cabin Crew In Belgium, Portugal & Spain

18 Jul 2018

Up To 50,000 Of Ryanair’s 430,000 Customers (12%) To Be Disrupted On Each Of 2 Days

Ryanair today (18 July) confirmed that it has already this morning issued email and text SMS messages to almost 50,000 customers travelling to/from Belgium, Portugal and Spain next Wed 25th and Thurs 26th July, advising them that their flights have been cancelled 7 days in advance due to a notified strike by some cabin crew in Belgium, Portugal and Spain.

While deeply regretted, these cancellations will affect approx. 12% of Ryanair’s customers on Wed & Thurs next, and all affected customers have been offered re-accommodation on alternative flights during the 7 days prior to the 25th/26th, or the 7 days after the 25th/26th. Alternatively, these customers can obtain a full refund of their airfares.

To put these cancellations into context, this will involve:

– Up to 200 of over 830 daily Ryanair flights to/from Spain (24%)

– Up to 50 of over 180 daily Ryanair flights to/from Portugal (27%)

– Up to 50 of over 160 daily Ryanair flights to/from Belgium (31%)

– Up to 300 of over 2,400 daily Ryanair flights all over Europe (12%)

Ryanair has added extra Customer Service staff to help re-accommodate/refund these customers over the next 7 days. Any Ryanair customers travelling to/from Belgium, Portugal or Spain next Wed or Thurs, who have not received an email or text SMS today, should expect that their flight will operate as scheduled and should check-in to their departure airport as normal (88% of Ryanair’s customers across Europe will be unaffected).

Ryanair’s Kenny Jacobs said:

Ryanair sincerely apologises to our customers for these disruptions which we have done our utmost to avoid. Given that Ryanair cabin crew enjoy great pay – up to €40,000 p.a. (in countries with high youth unemployment) – industry leading rosters (14 days off each month), great sales commissions, uniform allowances and sick pay, these strikes are entirely unjustified and will achieve nothing other than to disrupt family holidays, and benefit competitor airlines in Belgium, Portugal and Spain.

All affected customers have been contacted by email and SMS text message earlier today and we will re-accommodate or refund all of those whose flights have been disrupted. “

Ryanair Irá Cancelar Até 300 De 2400 Voos Diários Na Próxima Quarta E Quinta-Feira (Dias 25 E 26) De Forma A Minimizar As Perturbações Geradas Aos Seus Clientes Provocadas Por Greves Desnecessárias Por Parte De Alguns Tripulantes De Cabine Em Portugal, Espanha E Bélgica

18 Jul 2018

Čeští cestující a turisté si teď můžou užívat ještě nižších cen a dalších skvělých vylepšení díky strategii “Stále se zlepšujeme”, a to zejména:

– Pokoje Ryanair s desetiprocentním bonusem do cestovního kreditu

A protože místa za takhle úžasně nízké ceny budou velmi rychle rozebraná, měli by zákazníci co nejrychleji navštívit www.ryanair.com, aby o ně nepřišli.“

Governor of the South Moravian Region Bohumil Šimek said:

“Díky konstruktivnímu přístupu při jednáních o nové lince máme dnes tuto skvělou správu pro všechny občany a pravidelné návštěvníky Jihomoravského kraje v podobě pravidelných letů do Milána. Zejména bych rád ocenil rychlost, s jakou se Ryanairu podařilo novou linku otevřít. Obvykle se hledá volná kapacita na jednu až dvě sezóny dopředu, takže sjednáním nové linky už na tuto zimu si náš vyjednávací tým připsal mimořádný úspěch. Beru to jako další krok společné strategie rozšiřovat postupně počty pravidelných linek pro obyvatele a turisty našeho regionu. Jednání o další možné spolupráci s touto společností budou i nadále pokračovat.“

Brno Airport’s chairman of the Board Milan Kratina said:

Irish Customer Update – Pilot Strike Thurs 12 July

10 Jul 2018

Ryanair to cancel up to 30 of 290 Irish flights on Thurs 12 July, only some IRE-UK flights affected.

All Ireland to Europe flights operate as normal as majority of Irish pilots fly on Thurs.

We regret to advise some Irish customers of a strike by just 94 (27%) of our 350+ Irish pilots on Thursday, 12th July.

We have tried to avert this disruption, which is unnecessary given Ryanair pilots’ and their union FORSA has received written proposals on seniority, annual leave and base transfers, which are what FORSA claims are the reasons for this strike, yet FORSA has rejected 21 separate invitations to meet Ryanair to negotiate these documents.

Ryanair pilots have already secured a 20% pay increase, earn up to €200,000 p.a., work 5 days-on, followed by 4 days-off (a double bank holiday weekend at the end of every week), enjoy rapid promotions and unmatched job security. In a final effort to avert this strike, we have agreed to meet our pilots and FORSA at a neutral venue kindly provided by Dublin Airport, but we believe this small group of pilots and FORSA are determined to disrupt the travel of Irish customers on 12th July.

We cannot rule out further disruptions in July and August, especially when some Aer Lingus pilots wrote officially to the DAA on 25 June – some 10 days before the results of the Ryanair pilot ballot were known – to advise that they were “contemplating a series of 1 and 2 days strikes in July and August”. It is unacceptable that competitor airline pilots are actively organising strikes by Ryanair’s pilots when these airlines will be the direct beneficiaries of any such disruption.

Ryanair has for 30 years pioneered low fare air travel, both in Ireland and Europe. In December 2017, we agreed to recognise unions for our pilots and cabin crew, and we have already signed recognition agreements with UK and Italian pilot and cabin crew unions, which shows how serious we are about dealing with unions. We have not made similar progress in Ireland (or Germany), where we see competitor airline pilots actively interfering by promoting strikes and flight disruptions during the peak period of July and August. These coordinated strike threats are designed to cause unnecessary disruption to customers and damage Ryanair’s low fare model, for the benefit of high fare competitor airlines in Ireland and Germany.

1. Despite offering to meet our pilots and the FORSA union at a neutral venue on Wed at 10am, the union has confirmed again today that they expect Thursdays strike by 27% of our Irish pilots to go ahead. We regrettably must plan for some disruptions on Thurs, and try to minimise their impact, especially upon Irish customers and their families travelling on holidays to Portugal, France, Spain, Italy and Greece. We will do this by cancelling a number of flights on high frequency routes from Ireland to London and other UK Province destinations where customers can transfer readily to other flights on Thurs or switch their travel to earlier flights tomorrow (Wed) or later on Fri, Sat or subsequent days.

2. We have this morning planned to cancel up to 30 of our 290 flights to and from Irish airports on Thurs 12th. All customers on these flights have received text and email notification of these cancellations earlier today and our Customer Service teams are assisting them with refunds, free transfers to alternative flights on Thurs, or Wed, Fri and Sat. For customers travelling to the UK we will also be assisting them with alternative transport on comparable operators (both flights & ferries) where there is some limited space available.

3. Customers who are travelling on a Ryanair flight to/from Ireland on Thurs 12 July and who have not already received an email or text notification, then we expect their flight to operate and they should check in as normal at their departure airport on Thurs 12th.

4. We apologise to our Irish customers for these regrettable disruptions which we have done our utmost to avoid.

  Iunie 17 Iunie 18 Schimbare
Clienți 11.8M 12.6M +7%
Grad de încărcare 96% 96%

 Kenny Jacobs, Ryanair, a declarat:
